Slender erect or sprawling shrub. Fl. orange & pink & red, Jul to Oct. Sandy, often gravelly soils. Undulating plains, seasonally swampy areas, gravelly ridges, coastal areas.

Scientific Description

Erect or prostrate,spreading or scrambling, shrub, spindly shrub (broom-like). Stems terete, not spiny, hairy; pustules or glands absent. Leaves or phylloclades clearly present, simple, alternate, not continuous with stem, 11-40 mm long, 3-4 mm wide, hairy, with simple hairs, flat with flat margins; margins entire; tubercles absent; pustules or glands absent. Pedicel present, 5-5.5 mm long, hairy. Bracteoles present and persistent or present but early deciduous, 1-1.4 mm long, hairy, not striate. Calyx 6-7.6 mm long, not accrescent, hairy, with simple hairs, ribless; pustules or glands absent. Corolla 9.5-11.5 mm long, multicoloured, mostly pink or red, with some pink or red spots, streaks or blotches; claws present; standard 10-10.5 mm long, glabrous, not auriculate, wings 7.5-8.5 mm long, not auriculate, keel 5.5-7.5 mm long, not beaked, not auriculate, glabrous. Stamens ten; anthers 0.2-0.3 mm long, at two different levels (filaments alternately long and short); filaments free (or united at the very base), 4.5-4.6 mm long. Ovary hairy or glandular; style 5.5-6 mm long, hairy or glandular towards the base, not bearded, terete. Fruit dehiscent (a pod or follicle), stipitate, not constricted between the seeds, round in cross-section, glabrous, not beaked. Flowers in July, August, September and October. Occurs in the South-West Botanical Province, in the Avon Wheatbelt, Jarrah Forest, Mallee, Warren, Esperance and Swan Coastal Plain IBRA regions.
