Trailing or twining shrub or climber, to 4 m high. Fl. black & yellow/orange, Jul to Nov. Sandy soils. Coastal dunes, creek edges, flats.

Scientific Description

Twining or climbing plants, shrub, spindly shrub (broom-like). Stems terete, not spiny, hairy; pustules or glands absent. Leaves or phylloclades clearly present, compound, alternate, not continuous with stem, 70-180 mm long, hairy, with simple hairs, flat with flat margins; margins entire; tubercles absent, pinnately arranged, terminal leaflet present, stalked; pustules or glands absent. Stipules present and persistent to older leaves, 4.5 mm long, without glands, ribless. Pedicel present, 13-15 mm long, hairy. Bracteoles absent. Calyx 12-14 mm long, not accrescent, glabrous, ribless; pustules or glands absent. Corolla 30-33 mm long, multicoloured, mostly yellow, orange or black, with some yellow, orange or black spots, streaks or blotches; claws present; standard 22-27 mm long, glabrous, auriculate, wings 28-30 mm long, not auriculate, keel 27 mm long, not beaked, not auriculate, glabrous. Stamens ten; anthers 1 mm long, at two different levels (filaments alternately long and short); filaments united in an open sheath with one free stamen, 24-28 mm long. Ovary sessile or subsessile, hairy or glandular; style 26-27 mm long, hairy or glandular towards the base, not bearded, terete. Fruit dehiscent (a pod or follicle), 46-70 mm long, 7-8 mm wide, sessile or subsessile, not constricted between the seeds, flat or compressed, hairy, with simple hairs, not beaked. Flowers in July, August, September, October and November. Occurs in the South-West Botanical Province, in the Esperance and Swan Coastal Plain IBRA regions.
