Rhizomatous, robust perennial, herb (sedge-like), 1-1.5 m high. Fl. Sep to Dec. Moist sand or clay. Seasonally or permanently inundated swamps & along stream banks.

Scientific Description

Rhizomes spreading, glabrous. Basal sheath glabrous, dull, striate. Culms terete, internal structure (at base of culm) hollow, glabrous, striate, not marbled, not fasciculate. Culm 600-770 mm long. Sheaths (including blade) spreading, dull, striate, glabrous. Apex elongated, glabrous. Dioecious (with separate male and female plants). Male and female inflorescences similar, posture (male inflorescences only) More or less erect, Culms unbranched below the inflorescence. Male spikelet 6 mm long. Subtending bract glabrous, Outer bract 2.4-3.5 mm long, margins thin and translucent, Apex acute. Perianth glabrous. 2.3-3 mm long. Inner bract glabrous, margins thin and translucent, Apex acute. Inner bract 2.5-3 mm long. Filament 1.7-2.5 mm long. Anther 1-2 mm long. Female spikelet 2-5 mm long. Subtending bract glabrous, margins thin and translucent, Apex acuminate to attenuate. Outer bract 1.5-2.8 mm long. Perianth glabrous. 2.2-3 mm long. Inner bracts 1.2-2 mm long, glabrous, margins thin and translucent, Apex acuminate to attenuate. Style three (or three-branched). 1.5-1.7 mm long. Fruit trilocular (capsule). Flowering Time September, October, November or December. Botanical Province South-West, IBRA Bioregions Swan Coastal Plain, Avon Wheatbelt or Jarrah Forest.
