Low spreading or upright shrub, (0.12-)0.3-1.2 m high, to 1 m wide. Fl. yellow-orange-red, Sep to Oct. Sandy gravelly soils. Plains.

Scientific Description

Erect, shrub, spindly shrub (broom-like). Stems terete, not spiny, glabrous; pustules or glands absent. Leaves or phylloclades clearly present, simple, alternate, not continuous with stem, 7-13 mm long, 1.5-3 mm wide, glabrous, flat with flat margins; margins entire; tubercles absent; pustules or glands absent. Stipules apparently absent even from the youngest leaves. Pedicel present, 1-3 mm long, hairy. Bracteoles present and persistent, 5-10 mm long, hairy, not striate. Calyx 8-10.5 mm long, not accrescent, hairy, with simple hairs, ribless; pustules or glands absent. Corolla 11-13 mm long, uniformly coloured, orange; claws absent; standard 10.5-13 mm long, glabrous, not auriculate, wings 10-11 mm long, not auriculate, keel 9.5-11 mm long, not beaked, not auriculate, glabrous. Stamens ten; anthers 0.8-1 mm long, at two different levels (filaments alternately long and short), 8-9 mm long. Ovary stipitate, hairy or glandular; style 10-11 mm long, hairy or glandular towards the base, not bearded, terete. Fruit dehiscent (a pod or follicle), sessile or subsessile, not constricted between the seeds, round in cross-section, not beaked. Flowers in September, October, November and December. Occurs in the South-West Botanical Province, in the Geraldton Sandplains and Avon Wheatbelt IBRA regions. Conservation Code Priority Three (P3).
