Short-lived, tufted annual or perennial, grass-like or herb, 0.05-0.35 m high, inflorescence more exserted from the leaf sheaths than in var. australiensis. Fl. green-purple, mainly Mar to May. Red or white sand, sandstone. Sandplains.
