Rhizomatous, perennial, herb or (fern), 0.02-0.13 m high, sterile frond simple, narrow, rarely absent; fertile blade spike-like; vernation not circinnate. Fl. Apr or Aug. Clay, heavy loam, yellow-brown or red sand, granite. Damp soil, floodplain.
