Rhizomes tufted, hairy. Basal sheath hairy, glossy, striate. Culms terete, internal structure (at base of culm) hollow at base only, glabrous, striate, not marbled, not fasciculate. Culm 150-760 mm long. Sheaths (including blade) appressed throughout, dull, not striate, glabrous, margins not translucent. Apex finely pointed, glabrous. Dioecious (with separate male and female plants). Male and female inflorescences distinctly dissimilar, posture (male inflorescences only) More or less erect, Culms unbranched below the inflorescence. Male spikelet 8-16 mm long. Subtending bract hairy, Outer bract 6-6.6 mm long, margins firm and opaque, Apex acuminate to attenuate. Perianth glabrous. 4.5-6.5 mm long. Inner bract hairy, margins firm and opaque, Apex acute. Inner bract 5.5-6 mm long. Filament 5-5.2 mm long. Anther 2-2.2 mm long. Female spikelet 9.5-22 mm long. Subtending bract hairy, margins thin and translucent, Apex acute. Outer bract 6-10 mm long. Perianth glabrous. 3-5.5 mm long. Inner bracts 7.5-9 mm long, hairy, margins thin and translucent, Apex acute. Style one, arising centrally from the ovary apex. 6-7.8 mm long. Fruit indehiscent (nut). Flowering Time August or September.
