Rhizomes spreading, hairy. Basal sheath hairy, dull, striate. Culms terete, internal structure (at base of culm) hollow, hairy, striate, not marbled, not fasciculate. Culm 360-790 mm long. Sheaths (including blade) appressed throughout, dull, striate, hairy, margins not translucent. Apex elongated, glabrous. Dioecious (with separate male and female plants). Male and female inflorescences distinctly dissimilar, posture (male inflorescences only) Distinctly drooping, Culms unbranched below the inflorescence. Male spikelet 5-6 mm long. Subtending bract glabrous, Outer bract 2.8-3.2 mm long, margins firm and opaque, Apex acuminate to attenuate. Perianth glabrous. 2.5-3.3 mm long. Inner bract glabrous, margins firm and opaque, Apex acuminate to attenuate. Inner bract 2.6-3 mm long. Filament 1.7-2.5 mm long. Anther 1.5-2 mm long. Female spikelet 9-12 mm long. Subtending bract hairy or glabrous, margins firm and opaque, Apex acuminate to attenuate. Outer bract 5.3-9 mm long. Perianth glabrous. 8-9.5 mm long. Inner bracts 6.8-9.2 mm long, glabrous, margins thin and translucent, Apex acuminate to attenuate. Style one, arising centrally from the ovary apex. 7-8 mm long. Fruit capsule. Flowering Time July, August, September, October, November or December.
