Tufted perennial, herb (sedge-like), to 0.45 m high. Fl. brown, Dec or Jan. Red clay over ironstone, sand, peat. Swamps, depressions.

Scientific Description

Rhizomes tufted, glabrous. Basal sheath glabrous, dull, striate. Culms terete, internal structure (at base of culm) hollow, glabrous, not striate, not marbled, not fasciculate. Culm 140-490 mm long. Sheaths (including blade) appressed throughout, dull, not striate, glabrous, margins not translucent. Apex elongated, glabrous. Monoecious (with separate male and female flowers on the same plant) or bisexual (with all flowers having both anthers and ovary). Male and female inflorescences similar (?) or male and female inflorescences distinctly dissimilar (?), posture (male inflorescences only) More or less erect (?) or Distinctly drooping (?), Culms unbranched below the inflorescence. Spikelet 5-14 mm long. Subtending bract glabrous, margins firm and opaque, Apex acute. Bract 2-3 mm long. Glabrous. 2.9-4 mm long. Bract glabrous, margins firm and opaque, Apex acuminate to attenuate. Inner bract 2.5-3 mm long. Style 2.4-3 mm long. Anther 1.5-1.8 mm long. Male spikelet 3.5-5.2 mm long. Subtending bract glabrous, Outer bract 3-3.8 mm long, margins thin and translucent, Apex acute. Perianth glabrous. 2.5-3.8 mm long. Inner bract glabrous, margins thin and translucent, Apex acute. Inner bract 2.3-3 mm long. Filament 2.3-2.8 mm long. Anther 1.6-1.7 mm long. Female spikelet 3-5 mm long. Subtending bract glabrous, margins thin and translucent, Apex acute. Outer bract 4-4.6 mm long. Perianth hairy. 3-4.2 mm long. Inner bracts 3.2-4 mm long, glabrous, margins thin and translucent, Apex acute. Style three (or three-branched). 2.7-3.5 mm long. Fruit trilocular (capsule). Flowering Time January or December. Botanical Province South-West, IBRA Bioregions Swan Coastal Plain, Jarrah Forest or Warren.
