Rhizomes spreading, glabrous. Basal sheath glabrous, dull, striate. Culms terete, internal structure (at base of culm) hollow in upper part, glabrous, striate, not marbled, not fasciculate. Culm 240-390 mm long. Sheaths (including blade) spreading, dull, striate, hairy, margins not translucent. Apex elongated or recurved, glabrous. Dioecious (with separate male and female plants). Male and female inflorescences distinctly dissimilar, posture (male inflorescences only) More or less erect, Culms unbranched below the inflorescence. Male spikelet (7-)10-14 mm long. Subtending bract glabrous, Outer bract 5-6 mm long, margins firm and opaque, Apex acute. Perianth glabrous. 4.4-5 mm long. Inner bract glabrous, margins firm and opaque, Apex acute. Inner bract 4.8-5 mm long. Filament 4-6 mm long. Anther 1.5-2 mm long. Female spikelet 10-12 mm long. Subtending bract glabrous, margins firm and opaque, Apex acute. Outer bract 5.2-7 mm long. Perianth glabrous. 4-4.3 mm long. Inner bracts 4.7-6.2 mm long, glabrous, margins firm and opaque, Apex acute. Style two (or two-branched) or one, arising from one side of the ovary apex.
