Rhizomes spreading, glabrous. Basal sheath glabrous, dull, striate. Culms terete, internal structure (at base of culm) hollow, glabrous, striate, not marbled, not fasciculate. Culm 60-190 mm long. Sheaths (including blade) appressed throughout, dull, striate, hairy, margins translucent. Apex finely pointed, glabrous. Dioecious (with separate male and female plants). Male and female inflorescences similar, posture (male inflorescences only) More or less erect, Culms branched below the inflorescence. Male spikelet 7-9 mm long. Subtending bract glabrous, Outer bract 4.5-5.3 mm long, margins thin and translucent, Apex acute. Perianth glabrous. 3.8-4.5 mm long. Inner bract glabrous, margins thin and translucent, Apex acuminate to attenuate. Inner bract 4.5-5 mm long. Filament 1-2(-4) mm long. Anther 1-2 mm long. Female spikelet 10-11 mm long. Subtending bract glabrous, margins firm and opaque, Apex acuminate to attenuate. Outer bract 4-7.5 mm long. Perianth glabrous. 2.5-3.5 mm long. Inner bracts 4.7-5.2 mm long, glabrous, margins firm and opaque, Apex acute or acuminate to attenuate. Style two (or two-branched). 3-4.5 mm long. Fruit bilocular (capsule). Flowering Time October.
