Rhizomes tufted, hairy. Basal sheath glabrous, dull, striate. Culms terete, internal structure (at base of culm) solid, glabrous, striate, not marbled, not fasciculate. Culm 620-780 mm long. Sheaths (including blade) appressed throughout, glossy, striate, glabrous, margins not translucent. Apex finely pointed, glabrous. Dioecious (with separate male and female plants). Male and female inflorescences distinctly dissimilar, posture (male inflorescences only) More or less erect, Culms branched below the inflorescence. Male spikelet 5-7 mm long. Subtending bract glabrous, Outer bract 2.2-3.2 mm long, margins thin and translucent, Apex acute or acuminate to attenuate. Perianth glabrous. (2.5-)3.5-4 mm long. Inner bract glabrous, margins thin and translucent, Apex acuminate to attenuate. Inner bract 3-3.3 mm long. Filament 1-1.3 mm long. Anther 1.2-1.8 mm long. Female spikelet 7.5-10 mm long. Subtending bract glabrous, margins thin and translucent, Apex acuminate to attenuate. Outer bract 3.6-4.5 mm long. Perianth glabrous. 4.3-5.4 mm long. Inner bracts 5.5-6 mm long, glabrous, margins firm and opaque, Apex acuminate to attenuate. Style two (or two-branched). 4-5 mm long. Fruit bilocular (capsule). Flowering Time August or October.
