Scientific Description

Twining or climbing plants, herb. Stems terete, not spiny, hairy; pustules or glands absent. Leaves or phylloclades clearly present, compound, alternate, not continuous with stem, 40-85 mm long, hairy, with simple hairs, flat with flat margins; margins entire; tubercles absent, pinnately arranged, terminal leaflet present, stalked; pustules or glands absent. Stipules present and persistent to older leaves, 3.5-4.5 mm long, without glands, ribless. Pedicel present, 9-10 mm long, hairy. Bracteoles present but early deciduous, 4-4.5 mm long, hairy, not striate. Calyx 6.5-7.6 mm long, not accrescent, hairy, with simple hairs, ribless; pustules or glands absent. Corolla 22-24 mm long, uniformly coloured, blue, mostly yellow, pink or purple, with some yellow, pink or purple spots, streaks or blotches; claws present; standard 20-23 mm long, glabrous, not auriculate, wings 18-21 mm long, not auriculate, keel 19-20 mm long, not beaked, not auriculate, glabrous. Stamens ten; anthers 1.4-1.5 mm long, at two different levels (filaments alternately long and short); filaments united in a closed sheath, 12-14 mm long. Ovary sessile or subsessile, hairy or glandular; style 21-22.3 mm long, hairy or glandular towards the base, not bearded, flattened at apex. Fruit dehiscent (a pod or follicle), 60-95 mm long, 6-8 mm wide, sessile or subsessile, not constricted between the seeds, hairy, with simple hairs, beaked. Flowers in January, February, May, June and October. Occurs in the Northern Botanical Province, in the Northern Kimberley IBRA regions.
