Rhizomes spreading, hairy. Basal sheath glabrous, glossy, striate. Culms terete, internal structure (at base of culm) hollow, hairy, not striate, not marbled, not fasciculate. Culm 70-460 mm long. Sheaths (including blade) spreading, dull, not striate, hairy, margins not translucent. Apex finely pointed, hairy. Dioecious (with separate male and female plants). Male and female inflorescences similar, posture (male inflorescences only) More or less erect, Culms unbranched below the inflorescence. Male spikelet 10-15 mm long. Subtending bract hairy, Outer bract 6-7.7 mm long, margins thin and translucent, Apex acuminate to attenuate. Perianth glabrous. 6-6.4 mm long. Inner bract hairy, margins thin and translucent, Apex acuminate to attenuate. Inner bract 6.6-8 mm long. Filament 6-7.5 mm long. Anther 2.5-3 mm long. Female spikelet 11-15 mm long. Subtending bract hairy, margins thin and translucent, Apex acuminate to attenuate. Outer bract 9-10 mm long. Perianth glabrous. 6-7 mm long.
