Small tree, to 3 m high. Fl. yellow-red, Aug to Sep. Sand, brown-red sandy gravel, laterite. Plains.

Scientific Description

Erect, tree. Stems terete, not spiny, hairy; pustules or glands absent. Leaves or phylloclades clearly present, simple, opposite, not continuous with stem, 20-60 mm long, 3-10 mm wide, hairy, flat with flat margins; margins entire; tubercles absent; pustules or glands absent. Stipules present and persistent to older leaves. Pedicel present, 1.5-2.3 mm long, hairy. Bracteoles present but early deciduous. Calyx 6-7.5 mm long, not accrescent, hairy, with simple hairs, ribless; pustules or glands absent. Corolla 14-16 mm long, multicoloured, mostly yellow or red, with some yellow or red spots, streaks or blotches; claws absent; standard 12-15 mm long, glabrous, not auriculate, wings 10.5-12.5 mm long, not auriculate, keel 10.5-12.5 mm long, not beaked, not auriculate, glabrous. Stamens ten; anthers 0.7-1 mm long, at two different levels (filaments alternately long and short); filaments free (or united at the very base), 7-14 mm long. Ovary sessile or subsessile, hairy or glandular; style 8.7-13.2 mm long, hairy or glandular towards the base, not bearded, terete. Fruit dehiscent (a pod or follicle), stipitate, not constricted between the seeds, round in cross-section, not beaked. Flowers in August and September. Occurs in the South-West Botanical Province, in the Jarrah Forest and Esperance IBRA regions. Conservation Code Priority Two (P2).
