Slender, erect shrub, to 4 m high. Fl. yellow/purple/red, Oct to Dec. Loam or sandy loam. Riverine areas, swampy woodlands.

Scientific Description

Erect, shrub, spindly shrub (broom-like). Stems angular, not spiny, hairy; pustules or glands absent. Leaves or phylloclades clearly present, simple, alternate, continuous with stem, 45-120 mm long, 2.5-10 mm wide, hairy, with simple hairs, flat with recurved margins; margins entire; tubercles absent; pustules or glands absent. Stipules apparently absent even from the youngest leaves, 4-6 mm long, without glands, ribless. Pedicel present, 4-4.5 mm long, hairy. Bracteoles present but early deciduous. Calyx 8.5-10 mm long, not accrescent, hairy, with simple hairs, ribless; pustules or glands absent. Corolla 13-16.5 mm long, multicoloured, mostly yellow, red or purple, with some yellow, red or purple spots, streaks or blotches; claws present; standard 11-16 mm long, glabrous, not auriculate, wings 10-12.5 mm long, auriculate, keel 11.5-15 mm long, not beaked, auriculate, glabrous. Stamens ten; anthers 1.3-1.8 mm long, at two different levels (filaments alternately long and short); filaments free (or united at the very base), 9.2-11.5 mm long. Ovary sessile or subsessile, hairy or glandular; style 12.4-13 mm long, hairy or glandular towards the base, not bearded, terete. Fruit dehiscent (a pod or follicle), 13-15 mm long, 5-5.5 mm wide, stipitate, not constricted between the seeds, round in cross-section, hairy, with simple hairs, not beaked. Flowers in October, November and December. Occurs in the South-West Botanical Province, in the Geraldton Sandplains, Jarrah Forest, Warren and Swan Coastal Plain IBRA regions.
