Erect or straggling, slender shrub, 0.3-1(-1.5) m high. Fl. yellow/orange & red/brown, Aug to Dec or Jan to Feb. Sandy & clayey soils. Swampy areas.

Scientific Description

Erect, shrub, spindly shrub (broom-like). Stems terete, not spiny, glabrous; pustules or glands absent. Leaves or phylloclades clearly present, simple, opposite, not continuous with stem, 4.5-5.5 mm long, 0.5-0.8 mm wide, glabrous, flat with flat margins; margins entire; tubercles absent; pustules or glands absent. Stipules apparently absent even from the youngest leaves or present and persistent to older leaves. Pedicel present, 3-4 mm long, hairy. Bracteoles present and persistent, 2-3.5 mm long, hairy, not striate. Calyx 4-5.6 mm long, not accrescent, hairy, with simple hairs, ribless; pustules or glands absent. Corolla 8-11 mm long, multicoloured, mostly yellow, red, orange or brown, with some yellow, red, orange or brown spots, streaks or blotches; claws present; standard 8.5-10 mm long, glabrous, not auriculate, wings 6.5-7 mm long, not auriculate, keel 6-6.7 mm long, not beaked, not auriculate, glabrous. Stamens ten; anthers 0.3-0.4 mm long, at two different levels (filaments alternately long and short); filaments free (or united at the very base), 4.5-5.7 mm long. Ovary sessile or subsessile, hairy or glandular; style 4-4.2 mm long, hairy or glandular towards the base, not bearded, terete. Fruit dehiscent (a pod or follicle), stipitate, not constricted between the seeds, flat or compressed, not beaked. Flowers in January, February, August, September, October, November and December. Occurs in the South-West Botanical Province, in the Avon Wheatbelt, Jarrah Forest, Warren and Swan Coastal Plain IBRA regions.
