Ascending to erect perennial, herb or shrub, 0.2-0.4 m high. Fl. white/yellow/orange & red/pink, Sep to Nov. Sandy or loamy, often gravelly soils over laterite or granite.

Scientific Description

Prostrate,spreading or scrambling, shrub, spindly shrub (broom-like) or herb. Stems terete, not spiny, hairy; pustules or glands absent. Leaves or phylloclades clearly present, simple, alternate, not continuous with stem, 10-16 mm long, 2-4 mm wide, glabrous, flat with flat margins; margins entire; tubercles absent; pustules or glands absent. Stipules present and persistent to older leaves, 2-2.5 mm long, without glands, ribless. Pedicel present, 10.5-12 mm long, hairy. Bracteoles present and persistent, 2.5 mm long, glabrous, not striate. Calyx 10-10.5 mm long, not accrescent, hairy, with simple hairs, ribless; pustules or glands absent. Corolla 13-19 mm long, multicoloured, mostly yellow, pink, red, orange or white, with some yellow, pink, red, orange or white spots, streaks or blotches; claws absent; standard 12-15 mm long, glabrous, not auriculate, wings 11-13 mm long, not auriculate, keel 11-12 mm long, not beaked, not auriculate, glabrous. Stamens ten; anthers 1.2-2 mm long, at two different levels (filaments alternately long and short); filaments free (or united at the very base), 7-10 mm long. Ovary sessile or subsessile, hairy or glandular; style 12-15 mm long, hairy or glandular towards the base, not bearded, terete. Fruit dehiscent (a pod or follicle), sessile or subsessile, not constricted between the seeds, round in cross-section, hairy, with simple hairs, not beaked. Flowers in September and November. Occurs in the Eremaean and South-West Botanical Province, in the Coolgardie, Nullarbor, Geraldton Sandplains, Avon Wheatbelt, Jarrah Forest, Mallee, Esperance and Swan Coastal Plain IBRA regions.
