Shrub. Stems hairy. Leaves 15-90 mm long, 15-50 mm wide, palmately lobed or irregularly lobed, complexly (twice-)lobed; margins crenate; indumentum present, with stellate hairs; stipules present but early deciduous (only visible on youngest leaves). Perianth clearly of two whorls (calyx and corolla), the corolla obvious and prominent. Pedicel present, 17-45 mm long; indumentum present, with stellate hairs. Epicalyx (extra segments or 'bracteoles' immediately below the calyx) present, 6-10 mm long, the lobes free, indumentum present, stellate hairs present. Calyx green, 17-25 mm long, the lobes fused half or more of their length, stellate hairs present. Corolla mauve or purple, 40-80 mm long, hairs or scales present or glabrous, stellate hairs present. Stamens many, united and arising from a staminal tube around the style; filaments present, 2-4.2 mm long; anthers 1-1.2 mm long. Staminodes absent. Ovary hairs and scales absent (ovary quite glabrous); style 1, 18-25 mm long, with five style branches or lobes, mostly glabrous. Fruits dehiscent (capsules and follicles), length-width ratio more or less as long as wide, hairs or scales present, simple hairs (without tubercle bases) present, stellate hairs present; apex rounded; calyx persistent to mature fruit; carpels 3-5; seeds per loculus 2-4. Flowering time January, September, October, November or December. Distribution Botanical Province South-West, IBRA Bioregion Geraldton Sandplains, Swan Coastal Plain, Avon Wheatbelt, Jarrah Forest or Mallee.
