Tufted perennial, grass-like or herb (sedge), 0.3-0.7(-1) m high, differs from the typical variety by smaller glumes with a shorter mucro and smaller nuts. Fl. yellow-brown, Mar to Aug. Sand. Stony beds of seasonal streams.
