Shrub or tree, 2-8 m high, leaves with numerous (11-25) teeth or pungent points. Fl. orange/yellow & red/brown, Sep to Nov. Clay loam, gravel, laterite.
Scientific Description
Erect, tree or shrub, spindly shrub (broom-like). Stems terete, not spiny, hairy; pustules or glands absent. Leaves or phylloclades clearly present, simple, opposite, not continuous with stem, 5-13 mm long, 6-17 mm wide, hairy, with simple hairs, flat with flat margins; margins entire or dentate; tubercles absent; pustules or glands absent. Stipules present and persistent to older leaves. Pedicel present, 2-4 mm long, hairy. Bracteoles 2-2.5 mm long, hairy, not striate. Calyx 3.8-4.6 mm long, not accrescent, glabrous, ribless; pustules or glands absent. Corolla 9-14 mm long, multicoloured, mostly yellow, red, orange or brown, with some yellow, red, orange or brown spots, streaks or blotches; claws present; standard 10-12 mm long, glabrous, not auriculate, wings 8.5-10.5 mm long, not auriculate, keel 8-10 mm long, not beaked, not auriculate, glabrous. Stamens ten; anthers 0.4 mm long, at two different levels (filaments alternately long and short); filaments united in an open sheath, 8-8.5 mm long. Ovary stipitate, hairy or glandular; style 7.2-9 mm long, hairy or glandular towards the base, not bearded, terete. Fruit dehiscent (a pod or follicle), stipitate, not constricted between the seeds, flat or compressed, not beaked. Flowers in September, October and November. Occurs in the South-West Botanical Province, in the Jarrah Forest, Warren and Swan Coastal Plain IBRA regions.
