Scientific Description

Erect, shrub, spindly shrub (broom-like). Stems angular, not spiny, hairy; pustules or glands absent. Leaves or phylloclades clearly present, simple, alternate, not continuous with stem, 25-130 mm long, 11-20 mm wide, hairy, with simple hairs, flat with flat margins; margins entire; tubercles absent, 3-6.5; pustules or glands absent. Stipules apparently absent even from the youngest leaves. Pedicel present, 4 mm long, hairy. Bracteoles present and persistent, 2-7 mm long, hairy, not striate. Calyx 16-17 mm long, not accrescent, hairy, with simple hairs, ribless; pustules or glands absent. Corolla 20 mm long, multicoloured, mostly yellow or red, with some yellow or red spots, streaks or blotches; claws present; standard 14 mm long, glabrous, auriculate, wings 7-11.5 mm long, not auriculate, keel 10-12.5 mm long, not beaked, not auriculate, glabrous. Stamens ten; anthers 1.2-1.3 mm long, at two different levels (filaments alternately long and short); filaments free (or united at the very base) or united in an open sheath with one free stamen, 10-14 mm long. Ovary hairy or glandular; style 12 mm long, hairy or glandular towards the base, not bearded, terete. Fruit dehiscent (a pod or follicle), 15-16 mm long, 6-8 mm wide, stipitate or sessile or subsessile, not constricted between the seeds, round in cross-section, hairy, with simple hairs, not beaked. Flowers in April. Occurs in the South-West Botanical Province, in the Geraldton Sandplains IBRA regions. Conservation Code Priority Three (P3).
