Broom-like shrub, 0.7-2 m high. Fl. orange & red, Sep. Gravelly sand. Ridges, flats, mountain slopes.
Scientific Description
Erect, shrub, spindly shrub (broom-like). Stems terete, not spiny, glabrous; pustules or glands absent. Leaves or phylloclades clearly present, simple, alternate, continuous with stem, 20-100 mm long, 2-6 mm wide, glabrous, flat with flat margins; margins entire; tubercles absent; pustules or glands absent. Stipules apparently absent even from the youngest leaves. Pedicel present, 4.2-7 mm long, glabrous. Bracteoles absent. Calyx 5-6 mm long, not accrescent, glabrous, ribless; pustules or glands absent. Corolla 8-9.5 mm long, multicoloured, mostly red or orange, with some red or orange spots, streaks or blotches; claws present; standard 7.5-8 mm long, glabrous, not auriculate, wings 6.2-6.5 mm long, not auriculate, keel 5-5.5 mm long, beaked, not auriculate, glabrous. Stamens ten; anthers 0.3-0.4 mm long, at two different levels (filaments alternately long and short); filaments free (or united at the very base), 4.5-6 mm long. Ovary sessile or subsessile, glabrous; style 5.2-6.5 mm long, glabrous, not bearded, terete. Fruit dehiscent (a pod or follicle), 11-13 mm long, 10-11 mm wide, sessile or subsessile, not constricted between the seeds, flat or compressed, glabrous, beaked. Flowers in September. Occurs in the Eremaean and South-West Botanical Province, in the Coolgardie, Avon Wheatbelt and Mallee IBRA regions.
