Rhizomatous, erect perennial, herb, 0.2-0.5 m high. Fl. yellow-brown, Oct to Dec. Sandy, loamy & clayey soils. Seasonally wet flats, swamps.

Rhizomes spreading, hairy. Basal sheath hairy, dull, striate. Culms terete, internal structure (at base of culm) hollow, glabrous, striate, not marbled, not fasciculate. Culm 190-390 mm long. Sheaths (including blade) spreading, glossy, striate, glabrous, margins not translucent. Apex recurved, glabrous. Dioecious (with separate male and female plants). Male and female inflorescences distinctly dissimilar, posture (male inflorescences only) More or less erect, Culms unbranched below the inflorescence. Male spikelet 7-15 mm long. Subtending bract glabrous, Outer bract 4-7 mm long, margins thin and translucent, Apex acute. Perianth glabrous. 4-5 mm long. Inner bract glabrous, margins thin and translucent, Apex acuminate to attenuate. Inner bract 6.5-8.5 mm long. Filament 1.2-5 mm long. Anther 2-2.4 mm long. Female spikelet 8-10 mm long. Subtending bract hairy, margins thin and translucent, Apex acuminate to attenuate. Outer bract 7-8 mm long. Perianth glabrous. 3-4 mm long. Inner bracts 3-3.5 mm long, glabrous, margins thin and translucent, Apex acuminate to attenuate. Style two (or two-branched). 3.5-4 mm long. Fruit bilocular (capsule). Flowering Time October, November or December. Botanical Province South-West, IBRA Bioregions Swan Coastal Plain, Avon Wheatbelt, Jarrah Forest, Warren or Esperance.
