Erect, open shrub, 0.4-2 m high. Fl. pink-red, Jul to Aug. Sand, stony soils, granite. Rocky plains, hardpans, near creek.
Scientific Description
Erect, shrub, spindly shrub (broom-like). Stems terete, not spiny, glabrous; pustules or glands absent. Leaves or phylloclades clearly present, compound, alternate, not continuous with stem, 25-70 mm long, hairy, with simple hairs, flat with flat margins; margins entire; tubercles absent, leaflets 11-13, pinnately arranged, terminal leaflet present, stalked; pustules or glands absent. Stipules present and persistent to older leaves. Pedicel present, 1.5 mm long, hairy. Bracteoles present but early deciduous. Calyx 2-2.6 mm long, not accrescent, hairy, with simple hairs, ribless; pustules or glands absent. Corolla 11-12 mm long, multicoloured, mostly pink or red, with some pink or red spots, streaks or blotches; claws absent. Stamens ten; anthers 0.5-0.6 mm long, at two different levels (filaments alternately long and short); filaments united in an open sheath with one free stamen, 4.6-6 mm long. Ovary glabrous; style 6.4-7.4 mm long glabrous, not bearded, terete. Fruit dehiscent (a pod or follicle), sessile or subsessile, not constricted between the seeds, round in cross-section, not beaked. Flowers in July and August. Occurs in the Eremaean Botanical Province, in the Yalgoo IBRA regions.
