Scientific Description

Erect, shrub, spindly shrub (broom-like). Stems flattened, spiny at least in part, glabrous; pustules or glands absent. Leaves or phylloclades clearly present, alternate, continuous with stem, 4-40 mm long, 1.2-5 mm wide, glabrous; margins entire; tubercles absent; pustules or glands absent. Stipules apparently absent even from the youngest leaves. Pedicel present, 1.5-5 mm long, glabrous. Bracteoles absent. Calyx 2.5-3.2 mm long, not accrescent, glabrous, ribbed; pustules or glands absent. Corolla 6-7 mm long, multicoloured, mostly red or orange, with some red or orange spots, streaks or blotches; claws present; standard 5-5.5 mm long, glabrous, not auriculate, wings 4.6-5 mm long, not auriculate, keel 4.5-5.5 mm long, beaked, not auriculate, glabrous. Stamens ten; anthers 0.1-0.2 mm long, at two different levels (filaments alternately long and short); filaments free (or united at the very base), 4.2-5 mm long. Ovary sessile or subsessile, glabrous; style 4.5-5.5 mm long, glabrous, not bearded, terete. Fruit dehiscent (a pod or follicle), 7-10 mm long, 8-10 mm wide, sessile or subsessile, not constricted between the seeds, flat or compressed, glabrous, beaked. Flowers in June, July, August and September. Occurs in the South-West Botanical Province, in the Geraldton Sandplains, Jarrah Forest and Swan Coastal Plain IBRA regions.
