Perennial, herb or climber. Fl. blue-violet, Aug to Sep. Rocky red-brown clay, loamy sand, granite. Outcrops.

Scientific Description

Twining or climbing plants, herb. Stems terete, not spiny, hairy; pustules or glands absent. Leaves or phylloclades clearly present, compound, alternate, not continuous with stem, 10-30 mm long, hairy, with simple hairs, flat with flat margins; margins entire; tubercles absent, pinnately arranged; pustules or glands absent. Stipules present but early deciduous ( only visible on youngest leaves ). Pedicel present, 1.5-2 mm long, hairy. Bracteoles present and persistent, 1.5-2 mm long, hairy, not striate. Calyx 5-5.5 mm long, not accrescent, hairy, with simple hairs, ribless; pustules or glands absent. Corolla 7.2-8 mm long, multicoloured, mostly purple or blue, with some purple or blue spots, streaks or blotches; claws absent; standard 6.5-7.6 mm long, glabrous, not auriculate, wings 6-7 mm long, not auriculate, keel 5-6 mm long, not beaked, not auriculate, glabrous. Stamens ten; anthers 0.2 mm long, at two different levels (filaments alternately long and short); filaments united in an open sheath with one free stamen, 3.2-5 mm long. Ovary sessile or subsessile, hairy or glandular; style 4.5-5 mm long, hairy or glandular towards the base, not bearded, flattened at apex. Fruit dehiscent (a pod or follicle), 18 mm long, 2-3 mm wide, sessile or subsessile, not constricted between the seeds, flat or compressed, hairy, with simple hairs, not beaked. Flowers in August and September. Occurs in the Eremaean and South-West Botanical Province, in the Coolgardie, Jarrah Forest, Mallee and Esperance IBRA regions.
