Prostrate, rarely low-spreading shrub, 0.05-0.2(-0.4) m high. Sand, clay loam, sandy or clay loam, sandy clay, gravel, laterite, limestone. Flat areas, slight depressions, gentle slopes.

Scientific Description

Twining or climbing plants. Stems terete, not spiny, glabrous; pustules or glands absent. Leaves or phylloclades clearly present, simple, alternate, not continuous with stem, 10-55 mm long, 1-1.2 mm wide, hairy, with simple hairs, strongly recurved, appearing terete but with one or two grooves below; tubercles absent; pustules or glands absent. Stipules present and persistent to older leaves, 4-5 mm long, without glands, ribless. Pedicel present, 1 mm long, hairy. Bracteoles present and persistent, 5-5.5 mm long, hairy, not striate. Calyx 7-8 mm long, not accrescent, hairy, with simple hairs, ribless; pustules or glands absent. Corolla 8.5-9 mm long, multicoloured, mostly red or purple, with some red or purple spots, streaks or blotches; claws present; standard 7.5-9 mm long, glabrous, not auriculate, wings 7.5-8 mm long, not auriculate, keel 7.5-8.5 mm long, not beaked, not auriculate, glabrous. Stamens ten; anthers 0.5-0.7 mm long, at two different levels (filaments alternately long and short); filaments free (or united at the very base), 5-6.5 mm long. Ovary sessile or subsessile, hairy or glandular; style 6.5-8 mm long, hairy or glandular towards the base, not bearded, terete. Fruit dehiscent (a pod or follicle), sessile or subsessile, not constricted between the seeds, flat or compressed, not beaked. Flowers in March, September, October, November and December. Occurs in the Eremaean and South-West Botanical Province, in the Coolgardie, Mallee and Esperance IBRA regions.
