Scientific Description

Habit and structure. Thallus medium red, tufted, 3–5 cm high, subdichotomously and complanately branched with branches of even width, 3–6 mm broad, 2–5 mm apart, with strongly crispate to convolute margins, axils rounded; veins absent. Holdfast probably discoid; epiphytic. Structure. Growth marginal without apical cells; mature cells angular in surface view, isodiametric to slightly elongate, 35–55 µm across, often in transverse rows. Blades mostly tristromatic, polystromatic basally, cortical cells equivalent. Cells multinucleate; rhodoplasts discoid.

Reproduction. Gametophytes unknown. Tetrasporangial sori scattered, rounded, 0.5–1.5 mm across, with tetrasporangia subspherical to ovoid, 50–90 µm across.
