Compact, dense, intricately-branched, rigid, spinescent herb, to 1.2 m high. Fl. orange-yellow-red-brown, May to Aug. White sand or sandy loam over laterite or clay, quartzite sand, clay.

Erect, shrub, spindly shrub (broom-like). Stems terete, spiny at least in part, glabrous; pustules or glands absent. Leaves or phylloclades clearly present, simple, alternate, not continuous with stem, 3-6 mm long, 1.5-2.4 mm wide, glabrous, flat with flat margins; margins entire; tubercles absent; pustules or glands absent. Stipules present and persistent to older leaves. Pedicel present (?). Bracteoles 1.2-2 mm long, hairy. Calyx 4-4.5 mm long, not accrescent, glabrous; pustules or glands absent. Corolla 9-10.5 mm long, multicoloured, mostly yellow, red, orange or brown, with some yellow, red, orange or brown spots, streaks or blotches; claws present; standard 9.5-10 mm long, glabrous, wings 8.2 mm long, keel 6-7 mm long, hairy at least in part. Stamens ten, at two different levels (filaments alternately long and short); filaments united in an open sheath, 5-6 mm long. Ovary stipitate, hairy or glandular, hairy or glandular towards the base, not bearded, terete. Fruit dehiscent (a pod or follicle), 17 mm long, 7 mm wide, stipitate, not constricted between the seeds, flat or compressed, glabrous, not beaked. Flowers in May, June, July and August. Occurs in the Eremaean and South-West Botanical Province, in the Coolgardie, Avon Wheatbelt, Mallee and Esperance IBRA regions. Conservation Code Priority Three (P3).
