Rhizomatous, perennial, herb, to 1.5 m high. Fl. purple, Sep to Dec. Grey-brown sand or sandy clay loams, red-brown clayey loam over ironstone. Flats and slopes, seasonally-wet sites, swampy areas, along riverbanks.
