Erect or straggly shrub, 0.5-2 m high. Fl. red/green & red/yellow-green-brown, May to Nov. Loam, sand over quartzite or granite, laterite. Along creeks, rocky hills & mountains, outcrops, flats.
Scientific Description
Erect, shrub, spindly shrub (broom-like). Stems terete, not spiny, glabrous; pustules or glands absent. Leaves or phylloclades clearly present, simple, opposite, not continuous with stem, 12-37 mm long, 3-25 mm wide, glabrous, flat with flat margins or flat with recurved margins; margins entire; tuberculate; pustules or glands absent. Stipules present and persistent to older leaves. Pedicel present, 2.7-3 mm long, hairy. Bracteoles 3.5-4 mm long, glabrous, not striate. Calyx 9-12 mm long, not accrescent, hairy, with simple hairs, ribless; pustules or glands absent. Corolla 28-40 mm long, multicoloured, mostly red, green or brown, with some yellow, red, green or brown spots, streaks or blotches; claws present; standard 20-27 mm long, glabrous, not auriculate, wings 20-32 mm long, not auriculate, keel 17-37 mm long, not beaked, not auriculate, hairy at least in part. Stamens ten; anthers 0.8 mm long, at two different levels (filaments alternately long and short); filaments united in an open sheath, 33-35 mm long. Ovary stipitate, glabrous; style 33 mm long, glabrous, not bearded, terete. Fruit dehiscent (a pod or follicle), 26-28 mm long, 7-9 mm wide, stipitate, not constricted between the seeds, flat or compressed, glabrous, not beaked. Flowers in May, June, July, August, September, October and November. Occurs in the South-West Botanical Province, in the Jarrah Forest, Warren and Esperance IBRA regions.
