Erect, spreading shrub, 0.15-0.5(-1) m high. Fl. orange & yellow & red/brown, Sep to Oct. Stony sand, clay soils. Stony rises, flat plains.

Scientific Description

Erect or prostrate,spreading or scrambling, shrub, spindly shrub (broom-like). Stems terete, not spiny, glabrous; pustules or glands absent. Leaves or phylloclades clearly present, simple, opposite, not continuous with stem, 12-30 mm long, 13-35 mm wide, glabrous, flat with flat margins; margins entire; tubercles absent; pustules or glands absent. Stipules apparently absent even from the youngest leaves. Pedicel present, 2.5-4 mm long, glabrous. Bracteoles absent. Calyx 4.5-5.5 mm long, accrescent (enlarged in fruit), glabrous, ribbed; pustules or glands absent. Corolla 8.5-10 mm long, uniformly coloured, yellow or orange, mostly red or brown, with some red or brown spots, streaks or blotches; claws present; standard 7.5-9 mm long, glabrous, not auriculate, wings 6-7 mm long, not auriculate, keel 6-7 mm long, beaked, not auriculate, glabrous. Stamens ten; anthers 0.3-0.5 mm long, at two different levels (filaments alternately long and short); filaments free (or united at the very base), 4.5-5.2 mm long. Ovary sessile or subsessile, glabrous; style 5-8 mm long, glabrous, not bearded, terete. Fruit dehiscent (a pod or follicle), 9 mm long, 10 mm wide, sessile or subsessile, not constricted between the seeds, flat or compressed, glabrous, beaked. Flowers in September and October. Occurs in the South-West Botanical Province, in the Avon Wheatbelt, Mallee and Esperance IBRA regions.
