Scientific Description

Erect or prostrate,spreading or scrambling, shrub, spindly shrub (broom-like). Stems terete, spiny at least in part, hairy; pustules or glands absent. Leaves or phylloclades clearly present, alternate, not continuous with stem, 15-45 mm long, 0.6-2 mm wide, hairy, with simple hairs, strongly recurved, appearing terete but with one or two grooves below; margins entire; tubercles absent; pustules or glands absent. Stipules apparently absent even from the youngest leaves. Pedicel present, 5-7 mm long, hairy. Bracteoles absent. Calyx 5-5.5 mm long, not accrescent, hairy, with simple hairs, ribless; pustules or glands absent. Corolla 9-10.5 mm long, multicoloured, mostly red or brown, with some red or brown spots, streaks or blotches; claws present; standard 8.5-9.5 mm long, glabrous, not auriculate, wings 6.5-8 mm long, not auriculate, keel 6-9 mm long, beaked, not auriculate, glabrous. Stamens ten; anthers 0.5-0.6 mm long, at two different levels (filaments alternately long and short); filaments free (or united at the very base), 4.5-5.2 mm long. Ovary sessile or subsessile, glabrous; style 5.5-6 mm long, glabrous, not bearded, terete. Fruit dehiscent (a pod or follicle), 12 mm long, 7 mm wide, sessile or subsessile, not constricted between the seeds, flat or compressed, glabrous, beaked. Flowers in August, September, October and November. Occurs in the Eremaean and South-West Botanical Province, in the Coolgardie, Avon Wheatbelt and Mallee IBRA regions.
