Scientific Description

Erect or prostrate,spreading or scrambling, shrub, spindly shrub (broom-like). Stems flattened, not spiny, glabrous; pustules or glands absent. Leaves or phylloclades clearly present, simple, alternate, continuous with stem, 5-20 mm long, 3-8 mm wide, glabrous, flat with flat margins; margins lobed; tubercles absent; pustules or glands absent. Stipules apparently absent even from the youngest leaves. Pedicel present, 3-4.5 mm long, glabrous. Bracteoles absent. Calyx 3-6 mm long, not accrescent, glabrous, ribless; pustules or glands absent. Corolla 18-28 mm long, uniformly coloured, red; claws present; standard 23-26 mm long, glabrous, not auriculate, wings 15-18 mm long, not auriculate, keel 16-18 mm long, beaked, not auriculate, glabrous. Stamens ten; anthers 1-1.4 mm long, at two different levels (filaments alternately long and short); filaments free (or united at the very base), 14-20 mm long. Ovary sessile or subsessile, glabrous; style 22-24 mm long, glabrous, not bearded, terete. Fruit dehiscent (a pod or follicle), 30-40 mm long, 17-20 mm wide, sessile or subsessile, not constricted between the seeds, flat or compressed, glabrous, beaked. Flowers in April, May, June and July. Occurs in the South-West Botanical Province, in the Geraldton Sandplains, Avon Wheatbelt and Swan Coastal Plain IBRA regions.
