Prostrate to ascending, spreading shrub, 0.15-0.6 m high. Fl. yellow/orange & red, Nov to Dec or Feb. Sand, gravelly sand, clay. Flats, undulating plains.

Scientific Description

Prostrate,spreading or scrambling, shrub, spindly shrub (broom-like). Stems terete, not spiny, hairy; pustules or glands absent. Leaves or phylloclades clearly present, simple, alternate, not continuous with stem, 7-20 mm long, 3-10 mm wide, glabrous, flat with flat margins; margins entire; tubercles absent; pustules or glands absent. Stipules apparently absent even from the youngest leaves. Pedicel present, 1.5-3 mm long, glabrous. Bracteoles absent. Calyx 3-4 mm long, not accrescent, glabrous, ribbed; pustules or glands absent. Corolla 6-7.5 mm long, multicoloured, mostly yellow, red or orange, with some yellow, red or orange spots, streaks or blotches; claws present; standard 5.5-6.2 mm long, glabrous, not auriculate, wings 5-6 mm long, auriculate, keel 5.5-6 mm long, beaked, auriculate or not auriculate, glabrous. Stamens ten; anthers 0.4-0.5 mm long, at two different levels (filaments alternately long and short); filaments free (or united at the very base), 3.5-5 mm long. Ovary sessile or subsessile, glabrous; style 4.5-5 mm long, glabrous, not bearded, terete. Fruit dehiscent (a pod or follicle), sessile or subsessile, not constricted between the seeds, flat or compressed, beaked. Flowers in February, November and December. Occurs in the South-West Botanical Province, in the Avon Wheatbelt, Jarrah Forest, Mallee and Esperance IBRA regions.
