Erect, bushy shrub, 0.4-2 m high. Fl. orange & red/brown, Aug to Sep. Laterite, sandy gravel, clay loam. Flats, stony hills.

Scientific Description

Erect, shrub, spindly shrub (broom-like). Stems flattened, spiny at least in part, hairy; pustules or glands absent. Leaves or phylloclades clearly present, simple, alternate, not continuous with stem, 5-7 mm long, 2.5-3 mm wide, glabrous, flat with flat margins; margins entire; tubercles absent; pustules or glands absent. Stipules apparently absent even from the youngest leaves. Pedicel present, 1.5-2 mm long, glabrous. Bracteoles absent. Calyx 3.5-4 mm long, not accrescent, glabrous, ribless; pustules or glands absent. Corolla 8.5-9.5 mm long, multicoloured, mostly red, orange or brown, with some red, orange or brown spots, streaks or blotches; claws present; standard 7-7.5 mm long, glabrous, not auriculate, wings 6-6.5 mm long, not auriculate, keel 5-6 mm long, beaked, not auriculate, glabrous. Stamens ten; anthers 0.4-0.5 mm long, at two different levels (filaments alternately long and short); filaments free (or united at the very base), 4-4.5 mm long. Ovary sessile or subsessile, glabrous; style 5-5.5 mm long, glabrous, not bearded, terete. Fruit dehiscent (a pod or follicle), 8-10 mm long, 8-10 mm wide, sessile or subsessile, not constricted between the seeds, flat or compressed, glabrous, beaked. Flowers in August and September. Occurs in the South-West Botanical Province, in the Avon Wheatbelt, Jarrah Forest and Esperance IBRA regions.
