Erect perennial, herb or shrub, to 1.5 m high. Fl. pink/purple/blue, Mar to Jul. Lateritic loam.

Scientific Description

Erect, shrub, spindly shrub (broom-like) or herb. Stems terete, not spiny, hairy; pustules or glands absent. Leaves or phylloclades clearly present, compound, alternate, not continuous with stem, 75-160 mm long, hairy, with simple hairs, flat with flat margins; margins entire; tubercles absent, pinnately arranged, terminal leaflet present, stalked; pustules or glands present. Stipules present but early deciduous ( only visible on youngest leaves ), 7-11 mm long, without glands, ribbed. Pedicel present, 2-2.5 mm long, hairy. Bracteoles absent. Calyx 14-15 mm long, not accrescent, hairy, with simple hairs, ribless; pustules or glands absent. Corolla 13-16 mm long, multicoloured, mostly pink, purple or blue, with some pink, purple or blue spots, streaks or blotches; claws absent; standard 13-15 mm long, glabrous, auriculate, wings 10-12 mm long, not auriculate, keel 10-12 mm long, not beaked, not auriculate, glabrous. Stamens ten, at two different levels (filaments alternately long and short); filaments united in an open sheath with one free stamen, 8-12 mm long. Ovary stipitate, hairy or glandular; style 12-15 mm long, hairy or glandular towards the base, not bearded, terete. Fruit dehiscent (a pod or follicle), stipitate, not constricted between the seeds, flat or compressed, not beaked. Flowers in March, April, May, June and July. Occurs in the Northern Botanical Province, in the Northern Kimberley IBRA regions.
