Erect, bushy shrub, to 1.5 m high. Fl. orange&yellow&red&other, Jul to Dec. Brown or yellow sand, sandy clay or sandy loam. Undulating dunes or flat plains.

Scientific Description

Erect, shrub, spindly shrub (broom-like). Stems terete, not spiny, hairy; pustules or glands absent. Leaves or phylloclades clearly present, simple, opposite or whorled, continuous with stem, 15-30 mm long, 2-29 mm wide, glabrous, flat with flat margins or flat with recurved margins; margins entire; tubercles absent; pustules or glands absent. Stipules present and persistent to older leaves. Pedicel present, 1-2 mm long, hairy. Bracteoles present but early deciduous. Calyx 4.6-5 mm long, not accrescent, glabrous, ribless; pustules or glands absent. Corolla 8-10 mm long, multicoloured, mostly yellow, red or orange, with some yellow, red or orange spots, streaks or blotches; claws present; standard 7.2-10 mm long, glabrous, auriculate, wings 6.5-8 mm long, auriculate, keel 6-7 mm long, not beaked, not auriculate, hairy at least in part. Stamens ten; anthers 0.6-1 mm long, at two different levels (filaments alternately long and short); filaments free (or united at the very base), 3.5-5.5 mm long. Ovary stipitate, hairy or glandular; style 4.6-6.5 mm long, hairy or glandular towards the base, not bearded, terete. Fruit dehiscent (a pod or follicle), stipitate, not constricted between the seeds, round in cross-section, not beaked. Flowers in July, August, September, October, November and December. Occurs in the Eremaean and South-West Botanical Province, in the Coolgardie, Avon Wheatbelt, Jarrah Forest, Mallee and Esperance IBRA regions.
