Erect or prostrate,spreading or scrambling, shrub, spindly shrub (broom-like). Stems terete, spiny at least in part, glabrous; pustules or glands absent. Leaves or phylloclades clearly present, simple, opposite, continuous with stem, 14-55 mm long, 4-45 mm wide, glabrous, flat with flat margins; margins entire; tubercles absent; pustules or glands absent. Stipules present and persistent to older leaves, 1(-3) mm long, without glands, ribless. Pedicel present, 2(-6) mm long, hairy. Bracteoles present but early deciduous. Calyx 5.5-8 mm long, glabrous; pustules or glands absent. Corolla 11-15 mm long, multicoloured, mostly yellow, red or orange, with some yellow, red or orange spots, streaks or blotches; claws present; standard 11.5-15.6 mm long, glabrous, auriculate, wings 10-12 mm long, auriculate, keel 10-11 mm long, auriculate, glabrous. Stamens ten; anthers 0.8-1.3 mm long, at two different levels (filaments alternately long and short); filaments free (or united at the very base), 8-12 mm long. Ovary stipitate, hairy or glandular; style 7.5-14 mm long, hairy or glandular towards the base, terete. Fruit dehiscent (a pod or follicle), 9-10 mm long, 4-6 mm wide, stipitate, not constricted between the seeds, round in cross-section, glabrous, not beaked. Flowers in September, October, November and December. Occurs in the in the Coolgardie, Geraldton Sandplains, Avon Wheatbelt, Jarrah Forest, Mallee, Warren, Esperance and Swan Coastal Plain IBRA regions.
