Erect shrub, 0.1-0.5 m high. Fl. pink-purple, Sep to Dec. Yellow or white sand, lateritic gravel, granitic soils. Flats, slopes, outcrops, breakaways.

Scientific Description

Erect, shrub, spindly shrub (broom-like). Stems flattened, not spiny, hairy; pustules or glands absent. Leaves or phylloclades clearly present, compound, whorled, not continuous with stem, 5-12 mm long, glabrous, strongly recurved, appearing terete but with one or two grooves below; tubercles absent, leaflets 5-9, pinnately arranged, terminal leaflet present; pustules or glands absent. Stipules apparently absent even from the youngest leaves. Pedicel present, 2.5-5.5 mm long, glabrous. Bracteoles present and persistent, 2 mm long, glabrous, not striate. Calyx 8-9 mm long, not accrescent, glabrous, ribless; pustules or glands absent. Corolla 10-13 mm long, multicoloured, mostly pink or purple, with some pink or purple spots, streaks or blotches; claws present; standard 10-11 mm long, glabrous, not auriculate, wings 8.5-10.3 mm long, not auriculate, keel 9-9.5 mm long, not beaked, not auriculate, hairy at least in part. Stamens ten; anthers 1.2-1.4 mm long, at two different levels (filaments alternately long and short); filaments free (or united at the very base), 6.2-8.6 mm long. Ovary stipitate or sessile or subsessile, glabrous; style 8 mm long, glabrous, not bearded, terete. Fruit dehiscent (a pod or follicle), stipitate or sessile or subsessile, not constricted between the seeds, round in cross-section, not beaked. Flowers in September, October, November and December. Occurs in the South-West Botanical Province, in the Geraldton Sandplains, Avon Wheatbelt, Jarrah Forest, Mallee and Swan Coastal Plain IBRA regions.
