Prostrate, spreading or erect annual or perennial (short-lived), herb, 0.05-0.5 m high. Fl. pink-red, Jan to Oct. Sand, sandy loam, alluvium. Riverine floodplains, roadsides, sandplains.

Scientific Description

Twining or climbing plants, herb. Stems terete, not spiny, hairy; pustules or glands absent. Leaves or phylloclades clearly present, compound, alternate, not continuous with stem, 15-35 mm long, hairy, with gland-tipped hairs, flat with flat margins; margins entire; tubercles absent, leaflets 7-15, pinnately arranged, terminal leaflet present, stalked; pustules or glands absent. Stipules present and persistent to older leaves, 3 mm long, without glands, ribless. Bracteoles present but early deciduous. Calyx 1.5-2.5 mm long, not accrescent, hairy, with simple hairs, ribless; pustules or glands absent. Corolla 3.5-5 mm long, multicoloured, mostly pink or red, with some pink or red spots, streaks or blotches. Stamens ten; filaments united in an open sheath with one free stamen. Fruit dehiscent (a pod or follicle), 15-25 mm long, 1.7-2 mm wide, sessile or subsessile, not constricted between the seeds, round in cross-section, hairy, with glandular hairs, not beaked. Flowers in January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September and October. Occurs in the Northern, Eremaean and South-West Botanical Province, in the Pilbara, Carnarvon, Gascoyne, Little Sandy Desert, Gibson Desert, Central Ranges, Murchison, Northern Kimberley, Victoria Bonaparte, Central Kimberley, Ord-Victorian-Plain, Tanami, Dampierland and Swan Coastal Plain IBRA regions.
