Erect or spreading, woody annual or perennial, herb, (0.03-)0.1-0.6 m high. Fl. pink-red, Mar to Jul or Sep. Sandy soils. Alluvial flats, sandstone slopes, along drainage lines.

Scientific Description

Erect, herb. Stems terete, not spiny, hairy; pustules or glands absent. Leaves or phylloclades clearly present, simple, alternate, continuous with stem, 15-40 mm long, 1-2 mm wide, hairy, with simple hairs, flat with recurved margins; margins entire; tubercles absent; pustules or glands absent. Stipules present and persistent to older leaves. Pedicel present, 0.5-0.6 mm long, hairy. Bracteoles present but early deciduous, 2 mm long, hairy, not striate. Calyx 3-4.5 mm long, not accrescent, hairy, with simple hairs, ribless; pustules or glands absent. Corolla 3-4 mm long, multicoloured, mostly pink or red, with some pink or red spots, streaks or blotches; claws absent; standard 3-4 mm long, glabrous, not auriculate, wings 2.5-3 mm long, not auriculate. Stamens ten; filaments united in an open sheath with one free stamen, 2.5-4 mm long. Ovary sessile or subsessile. Fruit dehiscent (a pod or follicle), 2-2.5 mm long, 2-2.5 mm wide, sessile or subsessile, not constricted between the seeds, round in cross-section, hairy, with simple hairs, not beaked. Flowers in March, April, May, June, July and September. Occurs in the Northern, Eremaean and South-West Botanical Province, in the Great Sandy Desert, Pilbara, Carnarvon, Gascoyne, Little Sandy Desert, Central Ranges, Northern Kimberley, Victoria Bonaparte, Central Kimberley, Ord-Victorian-Plain, Tanami, Dampierland and Geraldton Sandplains IBRA regions.
