Erect, spreading to decumbent shrub, 0.2-1 m high, to 1.5 m wide. Fl. yellow & orange/red, Oct to Dec or Jan to Feb. Sandy, gravelly soils. Undulating sandplains.
Scientific Description
Erect, shrub, spindly shrub (broom-like). Stems terete, not spiny, hairy; pustules or glands absent. Leaves or phylloclades absent or apparently so (reduced to scales), alternate, not continuous with stem, hairy, with simple hairs, flat with flat margins; margins entire or dentate; tubercles absent, 0.5-2.5; pustules or glands absent. Stipules apparently absent even from the youngest leaves. Pedicel present, 2.5-4.2 mm long, hairy. Bracteoles present and persistent, 1.8-2 mm long, hairy, not striate. Calyx 10.5-15 mm long, not accrescent, hairy, with simple hairs, ribless; pustules or glands absent. Corolla 12-19.5 mm long, multicoloured, mostly yellow, red or orange, with some yellow, red or orange spots, streaks or blotches; claws present; standard 12-18 mm long, glabrous, not auriculate, wings 9-13 mm long, not auriculate, keel 6.5-8.5 mm long, not beaked, not auriculate, glabrous. Stamens ten; anthers 0.5-0.6 mm long, at two different levels (filaments alternately long and short); filaments free (or united at the very base), 4.6-5 mm long. Ovary stipitate, hairy or glandular; style 4-7 mm long, hairy or glandular towards the base, not bearded, terete. Fruit dehiscent (a pod or follicle), stipitate, not constricted between the seeds, round in cross-section, not beaked. Flowers in January, February, October, November and December. Occurs in the South-West Botanical Province, in the Geraldton Sandplains and Avon Wheatbelt IBRA regions.
