Erect, broom-like shrub, 0.3-1.5 m high. Fl. yellow/orange & red, Aug to Sep. Yellow sand. Sandplains & sandhills.
Scientific Description
Erect, shrub, spindly shrub (broom-like). Stems terete, not spiny, hairy; pustules or glands absent. Leaves or phylloclades absent or apparently so (reduced to scales), alternate, not continuous with stem, hairy, with simple hairs, flat with flat margins; margins entire; tubercles absent, 1-3; pustules or glands absent. Stipules apparently absent even from the youngest leaves. Pedicel present, 3-3.5 mm long, hairy. Bracteoles present and persistent, 2-3 mm long, hairy, not striate. Calyx 10-11 mm long, not accrescent, hairy, with simple hairs, ribless; pustules or glands absent. Corolla 12.5-14 mm long, multicoloured, mostly yellow, red or orange, with some yellow, red or orange spots, streaks or blotches; claws present; standard 11.5-13.2 mm long, glabrous, not auriculate, wings 10-11.5 mm long, not auriculate, keel 7-9.5 mm long, not beaked, not auriculate, glabrous. Stamens ten, at two different levels (filaments alternately long and short); filaments free (or united at the very base), 6-8.5 mm long. Ovary hairy or glandular; style 9-10 mm long, hairy or glandular towards the base, not bearded, terete. Fruit dehiscent (a pod or follicle), stipitate, not constricted between the seeds, round in cross-section, hairy, with simple hairs, not beaked. Flowers in August and September. Occurs in the Eremaean and South-West Botanical Province, in the Yalgoo, Geraldton Sandplains and Avon Wheatbelt IBRA regions. Conservation Code Priority Four (P4).
