Prostrate, mat-forming shrub, 0.05-0.3 m high, to 1.5 m wide. Fl. red, Aug to Dec. Clay loam, sandy soils. Swampy areas, coastal slopes.

Scientific Description

Twining or climbing plants, shrub, spindly shrub (broom-like). Stems terete, not spiny, hairy; pustules or glands absent. Leaves or phylloclades clearly present, compound, alternate, not continuous with stem, 13-20 mm long, hairy, with simple hairs, flat with recurved margins; margins entire; tubercles absent, pinnately arranged, terminal leaflet present, stalked; pustules or glands absent. Stipules present and persistent to older leaves, 5.5 mm long, without glands, ribless. Pedicel present, 3.5 mm long, hairy. Bracteoles absent. Calyx 4-4.5 mm long, not accrescent, hairy, with simple hairs, ribless; pustules or glands absent. Corolla 9.5-10 mm long, uniformly coloured, red; claws present; standard 9.5-10 mm long, glabrous, auriculate, wings 7-8.5 mm long, not auriculate, keel 7.5-8 mm long, not beaked, not auriculate, glabrous. Stamens ten; anthers 0.4 mm long, at two different levels (filaments alternately long and short); filaments united in an open sheath with one free stamen, 6.5-8.6 mm long. Ovary sessile or subsessile, glabrous; style 9-10 mm long, glabrous, not bearded, terete. Fruit dehiscent (a pod or follicle), 21-25 mm long, 2-3 mm wide, sessile or subsessile, not constricted between the seeds, flat or compressed, hairy, with simple hairs, not beaked. Flowers in August, September, October, November and December. Occurs in the South-West Botanical Province, in the Avon Wheatbelt, Jarrah Forest, Esperance and Swan Coastal Plain IBRA regions.
