Scientific Description

Prostrate,spreading or scrambling, shrub, spindly shrub (broom-like). Stems terete, not spiny, hairy; pustules or glands absent. Leaves or phylloclades clearly present, simple, alternate, not continuous with stem, 3-8.5 mm long, 0.7-1.2 mm wide, hairy, with simple hairs, revolute; margins entire; tubercles absent; pustules or glands absent. Stipules apparently absent even from the youngest leaves or present and persistent to older leaves. Pedicel present, hairy. Bracteoles present and persistent. Calyx 7-8 mm long, not accrescent, hairy, with simple hairs, ribless; pustules or glands absent. Corolla 10-14.5 mm long, multicoloured, mostly yellow, red, orange or purple, with some yellow, red, orange or purple spots, streaks or blotches; claws present; standard 11-14 mm long, glabrous, not auriculate, wings 9-11.5 mm long, not auriculate, keel 11-11.5 mm long, not beaked, not auriculate, glabrous. Stamens ten; anthers 0.6-0.7 mm long, at two different levels (filaments alternately long and short); filaments free (or united at the very base), 7-10.5 mm long. Ovary stipitate, hairy or glandular; style 9.5-12 mm long, hairy or glandular towards the base, not bearded, terete. Fruit dehiscent (a pod or follicle), stipitate, not constricted between the seeds, round in cross-section, not beaked. Flowers in August, September and October. Occurs in the Eremaean and South-West Botanical Province, in the Gascoyne, Yalgoo, Murchison, Great Victorian Desert, Coolgardie, Avon Wheatbelt and Mallee IBRA regions.
