Scientific Description

Erect, shrub, spindly shrub (broom-like). Stems terete, not spiny, hairy; pustules or glands absent. Leaves or phylloclades clearly present, simple, alternate, not continuous with stem, 7-12 mm long, 0.8-1.4 mm wide, hairy, with simple hairs, terete; tubercles absent; pustules or glands absent. Stipules present and persistent to older leaves. Pedicel present, 0.6-2.5 mm long, hairy. Bracteoles present and persistent, 1.5-2.5 mm long, hairy, not striate. Calyx 5-6 mm long, not accrescent, hairy, with simple hairs, ribless; pustules or glands absent. Corolla 7-11 mm long, multicoloured, mostly yellow or red, with some yellow or red spots, streaks or blotches; claws present; standard 6.5-10.4 mm long, glabrous, not auriculate, wings 6-8.5 mm long, not auriculate, keel 6.8-8.2 mm long, not beaked, not auriculate, glabrous. Stamens ten; anthers 0.4-0.5 mm long, at two different levels (filaments alternately long and short); filaments free (or united at the very base), 2.5-6.5 mm long. Ovary sessile or subsessile, hairy or glandular; style 4-7 mm long, hairy or glandular towards the base, not bearded, flattened at apex. Fruit dehiscent (a pod or follicle), sessile or subsessile, not constricted between the seeds, flat or compressed, not beaked. Flowers in March and October. Occurs in the South-West Botanical Province, in the Mallee and Esperance IBRA regions. Conservation Code Priority Three (P3).
