Straggling, spreading shrub, 0.15-0.4 m high, to 1 m wide. Fl. yellow/red, Sep to Dec. Sandy soils, clay, laterite. Undulating plains.

Scientific Description

Prostrate,spreading or scrambling, shrub, spindly shrub (broom-like). Stems terete, not spiny, glabrous; pustules or glands absent. Leaves or phylloclades clearly present, simple, opposite or alternate, not continuous with stem, 1-6 mm long, 1-3 mm wide, glabrous, flat with flat margins; margins entire; tubercles absent; pustules or glands absent. Stipules present and persistent to older leaves, 1.2-3 mm long, without glands, ribless. Pedicel present, 5.2-9 mm long, hairy. Bracteoles present and persistent, 1-1.4 mm long, hairy, not striate. Calyx 2.5-5.6 mm long, not accrescent, hairy, with simple hairs, ribless; pustules or glands absent. Corolla 3.7-6.3 mm long, multicoloured, mostly yellow or red, with some yellow or red spots, streaks or blotches; claws present; standard 3-6 mm long, glabrous, not auriculate, wings 4-4.5 mm long, not auriculate, keel 4-5.2 mm long, not beaked, not auriculate, glabrous. Stamens ten, at two different levels (filaments alternately long and short); filaments free (or united at the very base), 2-4.5 mm long. Ovary stipitate, hairy or glandular; style 3-4.6 mm long, hairy or glandular towards the base, not bearded, flattened at apex. Fruit dehiscent (a pod or follicle), sessile or subsessile, not constricted between the seeds, flat or compressed, not beaked. Flowers in September, October, November and December. Occurs in the South-West Botanical Province, in the Avon Wheatbelt, Mallee and Esperance IBRA regions.
