Scientific Description
Erect, shrub, spindly shrub (broom-like). Stems flattened, spiny at least in part, glabrous; pustules or glands absent. Leaves or phylloclades clearly present, alternate, continuous with stem, 5-15 mm long, 1.2-1.5 mm wide, glabrous, flat with flat margins; margins entire; tubercles absent; pustules or glands absent. Stipules apparently absent even from the youngest leaves. Pedicel present, 1.2-2.6 mm long, glabrous. Bracteoles absent. Calyx 2.5-2.8 mm long, not accrescent, glabrous, ribbed; pustules or glands absent. Corolla 6.5-8 mm long, multicoloured, mostly red or orange, with some red or orange spots, streaks or blotches; claws present; standard 5.5-7 mm long, glabrous, not auriculate, wings 5-6.2 mm long, not auriculate, keel 5-6.5 mm long, beaked, not auriculate, glabrous. Stamens ten; anthers 0.3-0.4 mm long, at two different levels (filaments alternately long and short); filaments free (or united at the very base), 4.5-6 mm long. Ovary sessile or subsessile, glabrous; style 5.5-6 mm long, glabrous, not bearded, terete. Fruit dehiscent (a pod or follicle), 10-11 mm long, 8-9 mm wide, sessile or subsessile, not constricted between the seeds, flat or compressed, glabrous, beaked. Flowers in June and July. Occurs in the Eremaean and South-West Botanical Province, in the Coolgardie, Geraldton Sandplains, Avon Wheatbelt, Jarrah Forest and Swan Coastal Plain IBRA regions.
